Heartbreaking news has emerged from the 16 and Pregnant family. Whitney Purvis, who appeared on the MTV reality show’s debut season, has announced the tragic passing of her eldest son, Weston Owen Gosa. He was just 16 years old.
Purvis first rose to public attention in 2009, when she and then-boyfriend Weston Sr. welcomed their son Weston during the first season of 16 and Pregnant, a show chronicling the real-life challenges of teenage motherhood. The couple later had a second child, River, in 2014 before parting ways for good.
In a devastating Facebook post, Purvis shared the news of her son’s death:
“This is so hard to write. My beautiful son, Weston, has passed away. He was only 16 years old. Life is so cruel and unfair. I just don’t understand… He was so perfect. This is really my worst nightmare come true.”
She continued, “I would do anything just to hold him. Words just can’t describe the pain I am feeling. I love you so much, Weston Owen Gosa. God, I love you so much. You are my heart. I was so proud of the young man you were becoming. I just can’t go on without you. Rest in Peace, my angel. You are gone too soon. April 2, 2009 – June 2, 2025.”
In a follow-up post, she included a photo of herself with Weston, both smiling. The caption read, “Rest in Peace, my baby Weston. I love you forever, precious. I’ll never understand why life has to be so cruel. You’ll always be my baby.”
At this time, Weston’s cause of death has not been officially confirmed. According to the family, Weston was found unresponsive at home the morning of June 2. Despite efforts by both family members and paramedics to revive him, he was later pronounced dead at a hospital in Gordon County, Georgia.
His stepmother, Amy Gosa, also shared details in a heartfelt Facebook post:
“We do not know the cause. They will do an autopsy soon, but all we know is we got up this morning around 7 a.m. and tried to wake him up; he was not breathing. We attempted CPR and called an ambulance. The paramedics continued trying, but he was later pronounced dead at the hospital. He had several health issues, as well as diabetes.”
She remembered Weston as “brilliant, smart, funny,” and filled with promise. “He was the most amazing son I could have asked for… It doesn’t feel real. Please keep our family and Whitney in your thoughts and prayers as we mourn such a brilliant, amazing life that was our son.”
The teen’s sudden passing has left his loved ones shattered and seeking answers. An autopsy is expected to provide further insight into the tragic loss.
