Gosling’s performance of ‘I’m Just Ken’ was one of the highlights from the ceremony – now Mendes has shared a joyous behind-the-scenes clip
Eva Mendes Delights in Martin Scorsese’s Joyful Reaction to Ryan Gosling’s Oscars Performance
Eva Mendes is reveling in a viral Oscars moment featuring her husband Ryan Gosling and legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese.
The 50-year-old actor shared a behind-the-scenes clip from the 2024 Oscars that captured Scorsese, 81, thoroughly enjoying Gosling’s performance of “I’m Just Ken”, the Oscar-nominated song from Barbie. The video was originally posted by Scorsese’s daughter, Francesca, and quickly gained attention online.
During the live broadcast on Sunday (10 March), millions watched as Gosling lit up the stage in a sparkling pink suit, accompanied by a crew of fellow Kens dressed in matching suits, striped ties, and cowboy hats. What viewers didn’t see on TV, however, was Scorsese’s endearing reaction — grinning and grooving along to the music.
Mendes couldn’t contain her excitement, reposting the video on her Instagram Story the following day (11 March). “@francesca.scorsese I’m living for this major moment of your Dad!!!! How F cool!” she wrote.
Though Gosling was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Ken, the award ultimately went to Robert Downey Jr. for his portrayal of Lewis Strauss in Oppenheimer. Meanwhile, Scorsese was up for Best Director for Killers of the Flower Moon, but Christopher Nolan won for Oppenheimer as well.
Despite multiple nominations, Killers of the Flower Moon went home empty-handed, including a surprise loss in the Best Actress category. Many had anticipated a win for Lily Gladstone for her role as Mollie Burkhart, an Osage woman who survived the Reign of Terror. The award instead went to Emma Stone for Poor Things, who gave a heartfelt shout-out to Gladstone during her acceptance speech.
Mendes and Gosling, who first met on the set of The Place Beyond the Pines in 2012, have two daughters: Esmeralda, 9, and Amada, 7. Mendes didn’t attend this year’s Oscars ceremony, opting to stay home. Gosling arrived on the red carpet with his mother, Donna, sister Mandi, and stepfather Valerio Attanasio.
