Brad Pitt Breaks Silence on Finalizing Divorce from Angelina Jolie: “Just Something Coming to Fruition”
After nearly a decade of legal battles, Brad Pitt is finally addressing the official end of his marriage to Angelina Jolie — and his response is more understated than expected.
In an interview with GQ published on May 28, the 61-year-old actor seemed unfazed by the milestone. When asked if he felt any relief now that the prolonged legal process was over, Pitt replied simply, “No. I don’t think it was that major of a thing. Just something coming to fruition. Legally.”
This marks the first time Pitt has publicly acknowledged the conclusion of their divorce, which was finalized almost five months ago. Jolie, 49, filed for divorce in 2016, citing irreconcilable differences two years after they married. At the time, she left their shared homes with their six children and began focusing on healing, according to her legal team.
“This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago,” Jolie’s lawyer previously stated. “Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.”
Once dubbed one of Hollywood’s most iconic couples, Pitt and Jolie were together for over a decade and share six children: Maddox (23), Pax (21), Zahara (20), Shiloh (19), and twins Knox and Vivienne (16). Though they were declared legally single in 2019, disputes over custody and shared assets, including their French estate, Château Miraval, continued to drag on. The legal case surrounding the winery is expected to go to trial in late 2024.
A major turning point in their split came shortly after Jolie filed for divorce, when Pitt was accused of abusive behavior during a 2016 flight. Although he was investigated and later cleared of any wrongdoing, the allegations significantly shaped the public narrative and contributed to the complexity of their legal entanglements.
Now, with the divorce officially finalized, sources close to Pitt say he’s focused on moving forward. His current partner, 32-year-old Ines de Ramon, has reportedly been instrumental in helping him find closure. “Ines wants Brad to find peace, forgive, and move on,” an insider said. “From her perspective, it doesn’t make sense for him to hold on to all the animosity.”
Another source added that Pitt is feeling a renewed sense of freedom. “Brad wants to get his life back on track and put this behind him. He’s ready for a fresh start.”
Jolie, meanwhile, has kept a low profile romantically since being linked to The Weeknd in 2021. According to a source close to her, she’s still healing. “It’s hard for her to trust men after what she went through with Brad,” the insider shared. “She’s not closed off to the idea of love, but she’s not actively seeking it.”
While the finalization of their divorce may have come quietly, the emotional aftermath remains. Still, both Pitt and Jolie appear to be turning the page — separately, but with the long chapter of their relationship finally behind them.
