Tory Lanez Hospitalized After Prison Stabbing Leaves Him with Collapsed Lungs
Canadian rapper Tory Lanez is recovering in hospital after being stabbed multiple times during an attack inside a California prison. The incident occurred early Tuesday morning at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, roughly 75 miles north of Los Angeles, according to the state’s Department of Corrections.
Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was reportedly stabbed 14 times by another inmate. According to a post on his official Instagram account, he suffered wounds to his back, torso, head, and face. Both of his lungs collapsed as a result, and he was briefly placed on a breathing apparatus. He is now able to breathe on his own.
“Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through,” the Instagram post said.
The attack occurred at around 7:20 a.m. local time, confirmed Pedro Calderón Michel, a spokesperson for the state’s corrections department. Prison staff provided emergency first aid before Lanez, 31, was transferred to a local medical facility for further treatment.
An investigation into the stabbing is ongoing, and officials have not yet disclosed a motive for the attack.
Lanez is currently serving a 10-year sentence for shooting fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion in 2020. The shooting took place after a pool party at reality star Kylie Jenner’s Hollywood home. During the trial, Megan, whose legal name is Megan Pete, testified that the two had argued in a vehicle over their previous sexual relationship and career tensions. She said Lanez fired at the ground and yelled at her to “dance” after she exited the vehicle, resulting in injuries that required surgery to remove bullet fragments from her foot.
Lanez was convicted in 2023 on three felony charges, including assault with a semi-automatic firearm. He has consistently maintained his innocence and refused to apologize.
The case drew widespread attention and sparked debate within the hip-hop community, with prominent figures like 50 Cent and Iggy Azalea publicly weighing in. Some even wrote to the court seeking leniency during sentencing.
Before his conviction, Lanez had released seven albums that reached the top 10 on U.S. charts. Despite his incarceration, he has hinted at new music, including an upcoming album titled Peterson.
