Trump Says Greenland Takeover Needed for ‘World Peace’
In a surprising statement, former U.S. President Donald Trump has reiterated his interest in acquiring Greenland, claiming that such a move is necessary for “world peace.” Speaking at a rally, Trump argued that Greenland’s strategic location and natural resources would strengthen global stability under U.S. leadership.
“This isn’t just about real estate. This is about making the world a safer place,” Trump said. “If the U.S. controls Greenland, we control peace.”
Trump’s previous attempt to purchase Greenland in 2019 was met with strong opposition from Denmark, which governs the territory. Danish officials dismissed the idea as “absurd” at the time, with then-Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen calling it “not for sale.”
While it is unclear whether Trump, who is campaigning for the 2024 election, has concrete plans to revisit the proposal, his renewed comments have reignited debate over the geopolitical importance of the Arctic region.
Greenland’s government has yet to respond to Trump’s latest remarks.
